Magnesium for Chronic Pain – Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, MD

Magnesium relieves nerve pain and helps muscles relax, a benefit to people suffering arthritis joint pain.

Magnesium helps balance the brain chemical NMDA with few side effects, unlike other medications doing the same thing, making it an inexpensive and less toxic treatment for pain, said Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum on the Dr. Oz website.

Some holistic medicine practitioners use magnesium intravenously to help with everything from migraine headaches to fibromyalgia and fatigue, wrote Teitelbaum.

Many people are magnesium deficient due to poor dietary habits. Long-term deficiency of magnesium can impact your immune system and create hormonal imbalances and changes in the bones, according to Progressive Health.

Those who are deficient in magnesium may also be deficient in calcium, the website said, but warned against taking too much calcium without magnesium, too.
