Kathleen Barnes - is the author, coauthor, or editor of 17 natural health books including The Calcium Lie. “The Calcium Lie” reveals: Excess calcium in the body and an imbalance of other essential minerals leads to calcification and a hardening of the arteries (calcific plaque), increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease and hypertension. This condition often leads doctors to prescribe statins and other drugs which very often have dangerous side effects.

Kathleen had an early career in newspapers and a 10-year stint as a foreign correspondent in Asia and Africa for ABC and CNN before returning to the U.S. to embark on a new career as a health writer, editor and publisher.

For six years, Kathleen wrote the weekly natural health column for Woman’s World magazine, and she has been part of the effort to raise public awareness of the subject of natural health for more than thirty years, as a writer, life coach and yoga teacher.

When it comes to America’s obsession with calcium, we need to switch gears and realize that more is not always better. In fact, many of us who think we need calcium supplements are actually already overloaded with calcium, thus causing what Thompson terms the “calcium cascade”, a domino-like effect of nutritional depletion that leads to some terrible body woes—including heart disease, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, migraines and more. What we need is not more calcium, but a better balance of minerals in our minerally-bankrupt bodies.
